It’s harvesting season in South Sudan and farmers said they have realized good harvests this year in Twic and Abyei in particular because the rainfall is adequate nor inadequate neither in this two areas. They local farmers made this remarks on Friday during on a community radio talk show.
“They harvests of this year is good compared to last year’s harvests because rainfall is moderate. The results of this year’s season harvests is good because of the earlier on set of rain.” Said by Yor Makuc farmer from Twic.
“We have enough harvests this year because many people have used tractors and ox-plough for cultivation this year. Good number of people have also avoided idle staying in the towns and embarked on agricultural scheme as the only tool to fight hunger in South Sudan.” Majak Kuol another farmer from Abyei explained.
They farmers in Twic State and Abyei Administrative Area (AAA) have urged those who already have gardens to extend the size of their gardens and for those who don’t have gardens should at least search for gardens to cultivate in order to reduce the risk of hunger in South Sudan. In 2015, His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit created the 28 states and subsequently, distributed 1000 tractors to the new governors in bit to fight risk of hunger in the country.
